New Sports Lighting on Professional Baseball Diamond in London, Ontario

Labatt Memorial Park

Labatt Memorial Park, located in London, ON, is a historic baseball stadium celebrated as the world’s oldest continually operating baseball grounds.
Nestled along the Thames River, the park offers a great atmosphere for sporting activities. The park has hosted countless historical moments, including numerous championship games, and remains a favorite venue for baseball enthusiasts. With the park being such a hub of activity, it is important that the field remains in great condition. Over the years, the field lighting for the park had deteriorated significantly, causing quality issues for the park. In need of an updated  field lighting system, the City of London decided to look into what they could do to improve their situation.

Challenge

Labatt Memorial Park serves as the home field for the London Majors, a team in the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL). Additionally, the park hosts games for local minor league teams, amateur baseball leagues, and various community events. Given the high level of activity, it was essential for the city to upgrade their lighting system with a top-quality, long-lasting solution. One of the challenges in this project was the need to replace the existing infrastructure and adjust the locations of the field lighting poles with new ones. Spartan Sports Lighting’s in-house design team tackled this challenge, working to deliver the most efficient solution for the park.

Outcome

The City of London and StressCrete Group have built a strong working relationship over the years, with the city consistently turning to StressCrete Group for their  streetlighting needs. Leveraging this partnership, Spartan Sports Lighting was able to collaborate with the city, expanding our offerings to include sports lighting. Our in-house design team meticulously met all the project’s requirements, making Spartan the ideal choice to support the park’s upgrade. This upgrade features new  directburied spun concrete poles, pre-aimed cross arms, and Spartan Sports Lighting’s signature STRATOS Light Fixture (LED). The result is a modern, enhanced lighting system that illuminates the field for evening games. Working with the City to enhance Labatt Memorial Park has been an honorable and exciting opportunity for Spartan Sports Lighting. We look forward to catching a game at this iconic field!

We’re thrilled to collaborate with the city on such a historic and beloved project. The high caliber of this field truly showcases the adaptability and range of the Spartan Sports Lighting system as an effective solution for small recreational fields up to a high-profile stadium like Labatt.

Bee Creek Soccer Complex

The Murray-Calloway County Soccer Association had wanted to light the fields at the soccer complex for many years, but for various reasons it never gained momentum. That changed in 2019, after a brief delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Bank of Murray generously granted the funds to the City of Murray. Now the MCCSA
will be able to increase the number of tournaments they run from 2 to upwards of 10-15 per year. Which brings in additional revenue for the parks system, as well as local restaurants and hotels.
