The Future is Bright

In the world of sports, great lighting doesn’t just make plays shine – it elevates the game. Yet many of today’s fields continue to utilize HID (High Intensity Discharge) fixtures. While considered to be a more affordable option, HIDs in turn have an array of problems – high consumption of energy, shorter lifespans, and contain hazardous materials such as mercury.

To further promote energy efficiency and sustainability, the Government of Canada released the National Strategy for Lamps Containing Mercury in 2019. As part of this effort, Canada plans to ban the import and export of mercury-based HID products by the end of 2028, supporting the transition to cleaner, more energy efficient alternatives such as LEDs.
